Adele Leyris is a Franco-English illustrator based in London with a background in Visual Design. She treats each project as an adventure, an opportunity to become an explorer, an expert on a subject, injecting into her work her discoveries, and projecting her perceptions and emotions for the viewer to relate.
Passionate about Nature and travel, she works with a variety of clients from branding to editorial and publishing,.

When you’re a girl, no one tells you that you might have to work harder just to be paid like a man.
That you’ll need thicker skin, stronger shoulders, more proof of your worth just to access the same roles when fewer people believe in you.

You’ll have to work harder to be believed, to be trusted, to be admired, to be respected.
Harder, often, for less recognition.

And that’s not even mentioning the quiet, constant risk women carry in the background. The risk of harassment. Of assault.

I don’t want to work harder anymore.
I’m tired of the polished lie that women can “have it all.”

I don’t want it all anymore.

So what do I tell my daughter today?
That all her dreams are accessible?
Are they really?
And if they are, at what cost?

Her family life?
Her mental health?
Her financial independence?

Women create life and are barely valued for it.
And yet society still calls us emotionally unstable, medicates our anxiety, and tells us we are “too much” when we speak up.

What kind of world is that?

When will more men start standing up instead of watching women struggle, fight, endure, and quietly carry it all?
And when will more women stop rolling their eyes and start refusing this imbalance altogether?

Ironically, much of my work as a feminist is spent convincing men that feminism isn’t about hating them.

What I don’t understand is how they don’t see the appeal.
Advocating for equality, challenging outdated masculinity, standing up for women… that’s attractive.

Just look at Justin Trudeau, Barack Obama, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, Jason Momoa.
Notice something?
They all have daughters.

So yes, International Women’s Day.

A day to celebrate the half of humanity that quietly holds so many of the threads of society together.
The half that can create life, endure a great deal, and keep going anyway.

Even if sometimes it feels like it’s mostly women celebrating women…
while the other half of humans wonders why there isn’t an International Men’s Day….

This year I decided to participate in the @worldillustrationawards with 3 entries. Here is the third one which is deeply autobiographical, yet created as a signal to other women who have endured the horror of miscarriages in silence. Rather than telling a story, the animation uses metaphor to express solitude and grief. A woman stands alone in a red sea that seems to emanate from her, watching a small yellow duck drift beyond reach. As rain falls and a faint sun rises on the horizon, the piece holds space for loss, endurance and the fragile coexistence of sorrow and hope.

Thought I’d share my little contribution to the Apple Xmas competition on Battersea Powerstation. After having worked on the David Hockney Xmas tree launch for Apple (as a Designer) back in 2023, it would have been such a crazy honour to follow such a legend and have my work projected on those giant chimneys. 🤯

However it means I have more control over the quality and we’re avoiding waist by going with print on demand. So you’re sort of saving the planet by going with my puzzle. ;)
